If you search “Whole Grain Myth” on Google you get countless hits with articles explaining how whole grains aren’t what we think they are and are actually terrible for health.
I’ve been on a heavy grain diet for a couple years now. I’m in amazing shape, I have very low body fat, and in general feel better than I did in my teenaged years (im 21 now)..I’ve never had any major health problems.
Some of these articles scare me because they have comments from readers who say they feel 90% better now that they’ve cut grains. I’m just not buying it. They almost got me to stop taking my vitamins now I’m wondering if they’re trying to do the same thing with whole grains?
I’m just very confused..can anybody shed some light on this area?

I know that some states have taken it to the extreme with lunchbox patrols (which I think are ENTIRELY inappropriate.) but the overall message without coercion is a good one right?

I started to work out recently (and btw, i’m 16 and 118 about, not an overweight 40 year old thats 300 pounds)
and i’ve been trying more around my biceps, arms, and abs, or around that area. I’m not to familiar with the terms :\
But i’ve heard something from my health teacher that the best thing to drink after a work-out is chocolate milk for some reason. She said it had a bunch of vitamins or something that repairs the tissue you break when you work out, and you have to eat a lot of protein to repair the muscle as well.
Is this true?
Cuz i just made chocolate milk using a hershey chocolate syrup squirt bottle and put some in a glass of milk and idk if it will help or make things worse. The syrup had a lot of sodium and cholesterol or something.
If this isn’t the best thing after a work-out, what would be? And is she right? Thanks and ill give best answer to the best one.

Ill start from the beginning. I have a leaky valve that needs to be fixed. My surgery is next Tuesday.
I start using pain killers recreationally around 2002. It started with a few perks and vikes than OC 20s eventually up to OC 40 mg. This went on for about 3-4 years than i had to quit. I did it cold turkey. wasn’t that bad but than again i wasn’t taking nearly as much as my friends. It just felt like the flew. I also know most of it is in your head.
I started back up on them slowly, then got really hooked. I still wouldn’t even take them every day and never took more than 80mgs in one day and never all at once (there were maybe not even a handful of times that I exceeded 80mgs and only abut 10-20mg more). I started to feel shitty on days i wouldn’t take them. so someone introduced me to suboxone and it worked great. I started taking them more(since about 2006-07). There’s even been times where I would take the suboxone in the morning and take an OC at night and i would still get high. Then take the suboxone the next day and feel fine.
I was only taking 2mg sometimes another 1-2mg later in the day and rarely up to a total of 6 mg.
I decided to quit OCs i was sick of them and i knew i had health problems i should take care of.
It’s been over 2 years since I’ve done a narcotic.
Ive read all the stories online about how bad suboxone withdrawal is. But I also know everyone is different, like didn’t have a heard time kicking OCs the first time. I also know the horror stories are more likely to be posted than the success ones.
OK so knowing i was going into surgery soon i came clean and told my doctor, he sent me to a therapists and i went down from 2mg- 1mg. Then went back up to 1.5-2m because I was being lazy and i needed to get stuff done.
I also found out i could have graves disease which is a thyroid problem and have been getting a lot of anxiety lately. So this makes me scared to come off the suboxone. Even if i feel no symptoms my mind will.
I went down to 1mg over a week ago at times i even take a lil less. For the most part ive been fine, just really tired and a lil hot at times. But i think the hotness is from the zoloft, because even before leaning down i would sweat sometimes at night since taking the zoloft.
Today is supposed to eb the last day of taking sobo’s, the anesthesiologist told me, but he said he’d see if he could get something to replace it. Talked to the nurse yesterday and she said just to stop them if not today than definitely tomorrow. I wasn’t going to take any today but I felt a lil weird so I took a small piece about .5mg. I still feel hot. Pretty sure its in my head though, because it should last 2-3 days right?
To prepare I bought a whole bunch of healthy foods with vitamins and anti-oxidants and potassium.
Also I’m having valve replacement surgery.
I know i’ll be fine, but i am also scared as to whats going to happen, not just during the wd stage but the surgery. I have a few questions like:
Even if i stop now will the pain meds work? (i have gotton high from Ocs in same day before)
HOw long does it take to be able to really feel the pain killers to take away pain.
If it’s too bad they said i can take sobos and they’ll just give me Methadone in the hospital. Isn’t that a lot worse? I’ve heard horror stories about methadone way more than any other drug.
Also they want you healthy during surgery so what if i am having wd’s?
I’m also scared that the wd’s might make my anxiety and thyroid go crazy, and i know that high thyroid levels (or even low) are not good for surgery on the heart.
Anyone have any suggestions? What should i do, what should I be looking forward to. I’m hoping someone who’s similar to me experience can help.
Should I just postpone surgery? I want to get it over with. I want to be healthy with a good heart no more drugs and a calm thyroid.
Please I just need some confidence to get threw this. I’ve been researching everything on the internet this past few weeks.
