Ok so I am kind of stuck here…i posted a similar question yesterday asking for healthy breakfast ideas and I am now comparing the nutrition of cereal and homemade oatmeal. Here is what i have found:
1 cup whole grain cheerios/1 cup honey nut cherrios (with 3/4 cup skim milk) = 308 calories, 57g carbs, 2g fat, and 12 grams protein
3/4 cup old fashioned oats, 2 Tbsp raisins, 2 Tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 macintosh apple (chopped) = 426 calories, 94g carbs, 4g fat, and 9g protein.
*I switched from cheerios to oatmeal because i thought it would be healthier (more fiber, less sugar) but it looks like I am mistaken? Is there anything I am not seeing or can do to make my breakfast the most healthy and useful? I live a very active lifestyle and can not skimp on my first meal of the day, however I am trying to get into tip-top shape and lose a couple pounds a long the way. Any advice will be great!

calories aren’t everything. 150 calories of ice cream and 150 cals of chicken aren’t digested the same. you should be more concerned with nutrients than calories alone. yes, the cereal has less calories, but the oatmeal is also healthier because it’s more “raw”. Cut down the amount of oats to the serving size (1/2 cup) and cut out the raisins. that’s where a lot of cals come from
I love Cereal! It’s good that you switched to Honey Nut Cheerios because it’s healthier than Oatmeal. Cheerios, in my opinion, are better than Oatmeal, most people will have a different opinion, but keep staying healthy!
